Let me begin this week’s post with a clarification… It was a beach on the island of St. John and the drink of choice was a Painkiller (a little fufu, I know). The recipe is below (and highly recommended):
- 2 oz Dark Rum
- 1 oz cream of coconut
- 4 oz pineapple juice
- 1 oz orange juice
- nutmeg
This is my first week back to running since Thanksgiving (perineal tendon tear), so it is nice to report on these workouts without a third party.
This week’s workout was the gold-standard of our winter speedwork (and the first one of the year)… the 2 mile Washington Park time trial. It is essentially one loop in the park. We start at the sidewalk on MacArthur & Williams Blvd. Greg Bennett said he wanted to be around 12 minutes and Gilmore and I said we would hang as long as we could. Egan had other plans. Immediately Dave and Alex took off and seemed to open up a gap right away. We knew they were gone for good. We cruised through the half at 3:03 and stayed on pace through the mile in 6:08. Then the hill came, along with the pain. Dave finished in just under 10:50 and Alex was a little ways back. The two Greg’s finished up in 11:54 and I was 11:58. Matt and Tracy finished strong a little back from us.
The temp was quite cold especially given the 20 mph winds. Not a fun day to be running outside.
