“Shoot, Another Ladder!”

I am always asking for suggestions on workouts for these Tuesdays on the track.  Only one guy offered up a suggestion of any sort, so that’s what we went with.  Of course, the guy that offered it up… Never showed.  We did it anyway.  The suggested workout was a ladder: 400, 800, 1200, 800, 400 with a 400 recovery between intervals.  All at (or below) 5K race pace.  Simple enough.

The track was hot.  We have not had the heat that normally occurs as soon as June hits, and so we suffered as the temps were barely in the Mid-80s.  I vowed to not make the same mistake I made on the last ladder by going out too hard.  It seems that once you redline during one of these workouts, you never really recover.

We had new blood in the form of the Surbeck’s (the duo).  It was nice to see Jeff give Terry a little company way up in the front.  The workout was very solid.  Although, I didn’t feel all that great.  I’m not sure if it was the heat or just one of those things, but I just never felt sharp the whole time.  My splits were 78, 2:36, 4:06, 2:38, 74.  It was exactly where I should have been time-wise, but it just shouldn’t have hurt that much.

Next week… 10 quarters on the 2:00.
