I have the day off today. So I took the kids to daycare this morning already dressed in my running gear. After dropping them off I drove to the park to start my running workout. Today I wanted to do 2 sets of 4 mile intervals. I chose to just do 4 laps in the park. I ran counter-clockwise so I would have to run up the big hill 4 times total.
Right away I knew today wasn’t going to be good. It was cloudy, damp, and cold. From the beginning of the intervals to the end I was in pain. I completed the first 4 miles with an average pace of 07:23. The second 4 miles was a lot tougher. I completed it with an average pace of 07:51 for a total of 8 miles at 07:39. It sounds better than it felt. At about mile 6 the sun actually started to come out. But by this time my legs were shot, my breathing was labored, my chest was tight, and my lips were numb. I think the dampness made it feel colder than it actually was. I started out with a temperature of 39 degrees and by the time I was done it was already 46 and sunny. That’s what you get for starting out so early (08:15).
After some Gatorade, a rest, and shower I don’t feel any better. However, I am now off to a local watering hole to watch the NCAA tournament. See you rabbits on Saturday!
