Last Rider Pedaling

My inaugural New City Time Trial experience.  Oh, how painful.  I was somehow seeded toward the back because of my past accomplishments.  Little did anyone know I had barely over 100 miles for 2009.  So I was positioned right in the middle of the big dogs.

It took about 1.5 mile before being passed by the rider 30 seconds behind me and 2 miles for the rider (Dan) 60 seconds back to pass me.  Slowly over time I was passed by more and more riders until the last rider to start passed me with about 2.5 miles to go.  Yes, I was the last to finish.

How was my experience?  Well, not bad all things considered.  Prior to the start I wanted to average 21 mph for the 10.8 miles.  I finished with an unofficial time of 29:00 which is just at 22 mph.  So I should be happy, right?  I guess, but it is demoralizing finishing dead last especially when everyone thought you would finish in the top 10.

I was pleasantly surprised by how many riders showed up tonight.  31 total as a matter of fact.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather.  The wind was slightly out of the East and the temperature was just right.  Thanks to TJ for volunteering to track everyone’s time and Brock W. for the great photos.
