Koke Mill Trail Run

Boy was I tired after yesterday’s brick but the weather was too beautiful to pass up.  I decided I would go check out the Koke Mill trail.  I had heard about it but never experienced it.  There had been a couple of running races on it and some of the mountain bike community talk about it so I decided to see what the fuss was all about.  I think it was Brian Tober who first mentioned that it was even there back in the day.

Two miles to the trail head from my house was a nice warm-up.  Once in the trail I was shocked at how well maintained it was and how cool it was.  It was amazing finding a jewel like this in the middle of Springfield.  There were benches every 1/4 mile or so, man-made wooden bridges, and some pretty nice scenery.  (This ain’t no Lake Trail with it’s home-made bridges and overgrown shrubbery.  Don’t get me wrong I appreciate the Lake Trails and everything Little Jason put into the trail but the Koke Mill Trail is like butta compared to the Lake Trail).  The trail is mostly single track with ups and downs and plenty of turns…..really cool.  What a pleasant change of pace from always running and riding on the road.  It felt refreshing to run on trail and it is only a couple of miles from my house.  Not an hour drive.  Why haven’t I tried this trail before?  What an idiot, Stimpy?

1 lap is about 1.4 miles so I did 2 then headed home.  I finished with just over 7 miles and some sore legs.  However, I’m pretty excited about runing on the trail more often.  Thanks to Lewis Memorial Foundation and SAMBA for maintaining such a cool trail.
