Good Times/Bad Times

A meeting at work was canceled this morning so I took the opportunity to go for an early morning run.  The weather was not favorable but my training has slacked lately and I am feeling pressure from the upcoming marathon.  It was 34 degrees and cloudy with a 15 mph NNE wind when I started at 07:00.  It didn’t take long before my lips were numb and I was COLD.  I attempted to run workout #1 but quickly realized I would not be able to do 2, 3 mile tempo runs.  I started the first at 07:45 pace but that only lasted 1 mile before I had to slow down.  I couldn’t figure out the problem. I was huffing and puffing the whole 9 miles and keeping just over a 09:00 pace.  It was bad.  I feel my fitness is getting worse.

The good news is that my ankle didn’t start hurting until mile 8.  So to keep with the musical theme my Led Zeppelin reference is perfect today as I felt like garbage but not having my ankle hurt until mile 8 is something I am happy with.  My final average pace for the run ending up being 09:02 for 8 miles…..OUCH!
