Kingsford Charcoal

I spent most of my 20s racing bikes and staying in good shape.  Then I took some time off.  I went from 150lbs to close to 180lbs.  I got fat!  It could have been all that fried food, chicken wings, beer, steaks.  You get the picture.

Being out of shape is just not fun.  Having an extra 30lbs to carry around with you is demoralizing.  Just imagine carring 3x10lbs bags of Kingsford Charcoal on your handlebars or strapping them around your waist and going out for a run.

Gaining weight is one of the easiest things to do (for some of us) as we age.  Today I turned 37 and went out for birthday lunch run.  It was one of those smell the roses runs.  37 and still in pretty good shape for my age.  I still have a couple more years of the glamorous 35-39 age group and have something to look forward to.

But no matter how much I run or ride, my diet will always be a struggle.  Who hasn’t gone out for a long ride or run, and then come home with an appetite bigger than our stomach?

With some downtime from racing, I really need to focus on my diet.  Even my sister Kim has taken some dietary measures with a 3 day raw food diet.  I could try to one up her and do a 4 day raw diet, but that is not me.  I could give up beer, but that is not me.  I could give up BW3’s, but that is not me.  Matter a fact I had BW3’s for my birthday dinner and a couple of beers to wash it all down.  So the focus will start tomorrow or maybe next week…

I do plan on maintaining my fitness through the winter, running and riding, maybe even swimming.  I can’t wait to break out the snowshoes and head to pasfield golf course.

So 37 down, 100 to go…
