Waking up Friday after the training race, I really dreaded getting on my bike and riding to work. But I wanted try to make a difference and take one car off the road, if only for the commute.
I had to work late, due to a board meeting at work. I knew I wouldn’t get out of there until 9:00pm. So I packed my work clothes, and running clothes/shoes in my backpack. I wore my cycling clothes on the commute.
The roads seemed pretty bare for a Friday. I had to make a stop at Grab a Java, to get my free bike to work day coffee. I pulled up to the drive-thru. You should have seen the barista’s face light up. “Our first biker” she yelled. It was already 8:30, and I really doubted she would see many more.
Thanks for the coffee Grab a Java, that was really a great thing you did!
I made it to work with coffee in hand.
At lunch time I made plans to run my way back home and pick up the Jeep so I could drive my bike home later that night. I took a little longer route on the way home. It was pretty humid out and last nights ride was not helping at this point. I was exhausted. 5.5 miles.
I took a quick shower then headed back to work. A little later in afternoon, the storms started to move in. Getting the Jeep was one of the best decisions I could have made.
I didn’t get out of there until 9:00. Loaded the bike in the Jeep and headed home.
Did I bike to work? Yes! Did I ride it home? No! It is called “Bike to work day” not “Bike home from work day.” I did get a great run in though!
