Back in the Swing of Things

I made it back home this Saturday from a week long conference. I was getting tired of the StayFit@Hyatt workout room. The nighly beer drinking was also getting old. What put this all over the top was the evening I returned home, I had to attend a parish auction. This was another night of drinking. I did try to limit my intake though. Sunday was the day… 22 miles, and the longest run of our marathon training program

Jason, was also out of town, and had done his long run earlier in the week. I was running solo again today. I started the morning out with some instant oatmeal and coffee. Around noon or so I took my 2 scoops of N.O. Explode. I had my iPod Touch loaded with podcast. I started out with a 10 mile loop out west. This had worked rather well for my 20 mile run a few weeks ago. I took a waterbottle and a couple packs of Clif Shots (Apple Pie & Double Expresso.) The first loop went by quick and I felt pretty good. I stopped by my house, briefly and grabbed a Clif Bar and a Peach Accelerade. Thinking back on the Accelerade thing, I think I will drop this from my runs. The protein makes it too gassy.

I started the second loop headed towards the Washington Park. 4 miles to the park, 2×2 loops around the park, then 4 miles home. Once again I felt great until that last 4 miles home. I tried to raise my pace, but I think I had trouble keeping focus, while listening to my iPod. My left knee had bothered me earlier in the week and was starting to hurt. I am sure this had to due with my weight session last week.

I made it back, with 22.33 miles in under 3:20 (3 seconds to be exact).

4 more miles would make a marathon. So will I be ready? The last 9 weeks of this program has been really good, and I think I will be prepared for St. Louis.
