Zero motivation and feeling a little hung over from yesterday's Barstool Open I headed out to meet Dan at the usual spot. We met at 12:45 in drizzling rain but 47 degree temperatures. The drizzling stopped after about an hour but the humidity remained. I'm not complaining, however, because I am so sick of freezing temperatures that anything above 50 degrees is appreciated. It felt like a … [Read more...]
Pathetic Run
I knew it was going to be bad today. After doing key workout #1 yesturday and waking up with a sore knee, I probably should have held off today. I went ahead and met Jason at our usual corner, to attempt 18 miles. After about 2 miles I was hoping my leg would just fall off. Jason slowed down enough for me to keep up. Eventually Jason's ankle started hurting and out 18 mile jaunt turn into … [Read more...]
Oh My Knee!
Key workout #2 for week 10, an 18 miler (which turned into 20.) My knee has been bothering me, and for some reason I knew this workout would put me in some pain. Jason, my PT, said it was most likely my IT-Band. Nothing a little ice and some stretching couldn't fix. It really doesn't start to hurt until I stop running, so in theory if I don't stop running, I should be fine. The 20 miles … [Read more...]
20miler
Sunny and 34 degrees with a NE wind at 15 mph. That is what greeted Dan and I as we began today's run at 10:00. I don't like running out in the country but Dan wanted to do a loop out of town then a loop in town. Against my better judgment we headed west. In retrospect this was probably a good idea since this route incorporated more hills than an easterly route. The St. Louis Marathon is very … [Read more...]
Back in the Swing of Things
I made it back home this Saturday from a week long conference. I was getting tired of the StayFit@Hyatt workout room. The nighly beer drinking was also getting old. What put this all over the top was the evening I returned home, I had to attend a parish auction. This was another night of drinking. I did try to limit my intake though. Sunday was the day... 22 miles, and the longest run of our … [Read more...]
The Dangers of Running on a Treadmill
I'm in Dallas for a wound care course. Since I did workout #2 of week 9 on Wednesday this weekend will be workout #1 which is 3, 3 mile intervals at marathon pace. The weather here is not that nice and my hotel is pretty isolated so I opted for the treadmill. The course got out at 18:00 and I was on the treadmill by 18:30. If I didn't rush to get started I would have never gone. Seeing it is … [Read more...]
A Little Jog in the Park
Today was key workout #2 for week 9. a 16 mile run at 10% slower the MP. Jason and I headed to east to Washington park, did around 3.5 laps and headed back home. Totaling just over 16.5. I went into the run with the mindset that 16 mile was nothing. After about 5 miles, Thursdays blizzard tempo run set in. This was not going to be an easy day. With temps in the 50s the park was the place … [Read more...]
Epiphany
I convinced Danoh to step off the treadmill, take off his dress, and join me outside for a "real" run. Today we were supposed to do 5, 2 mile intervals. So, this was going to be an 11 mile mid-week run. This is a lot for me during the week. I don't think I've run 11 miles in 1 day during the week that wasn't a holiday. Plus, I was just started to feel better from my sickness. It was dark, a … [Read more...]
GI Runs My Workout
It was suppose to be workout #2 of week 6. I chose to do a 10 mile run at race pace. I headed out to do the Washington Park loop. I keep a steady pace of 7:45, and felt pretty decent. On the return with just over 2 miles to go, I started having some GI problems. What did I eat, kept running though my head. Oatmeal w/ bannanas for breakfast, subway ham sandwich w/ jalopenos for lunch. I … [Read more...]
Treadmill Me
Happy Valentines Day Rabbits! With less and less time in my schedule, my new treadmill is ever so convienient. I did my workout #2 of week 6 which is 3x2 miles at marathon pace. I skipped the half mile recovery inbetween intervals. So that put me at 6 miles for my treadmill work out. All I can say is that is was a workout, nothing special... … [Read more...]
