A meeting at work was canceled this morning so I took the opportunity to go for an early morning run. The weather was not favorable but my training has slacked lately and I am feeling pressure from the upcoming marathon. It was 34 degrees and cloudy with a 15 mph NNE wind when I started at 07:00. It didn't take long before my lips were numb and I was COLD. I attempted to run workout #1 but … [Read more...]
Back to Back
After some time off my knee felt pretty good. So I thought I would make up for my poor attempt at key workout #1. I headed out late afternoon with a surpising bounce in my stride. But after a mile or so, some hint of knee pain set in. I ran through it, and it seem to have disappeared? I kept a solid pace of 7:30 for my first 4 mile tempo. It was a tail wind to the park so I knew I would be … [Read more...]
Bad Memory
I attempted to do key workout #1 today. I did a mile warm up and then started my first of two 4 mile intervals at a 7:30 pace. I made it 3 mile, and decided to call it quits. My knee was acting up. It funny because I kind of forgot about my knee, that first mile. I didn't feel any pain. But then my memory came back to me... I definitly need to give it a rest until Saturday. … [Read more...]
Slow but Hard
After taking Monday off to rest my knee, I hit the trainer today for an Iron Girl Workout. My legs still felt heavy, but strong. I made it through the workout cursing coach Troy. Every time I watch the video, he says "it will get easier, I guarantee it." I have been doing this workout somewhat regularly and NO COACH, its not getting any easier! I hope this cycing session helps my knee, … [Read more...]
Going Out Too Hard
I took the afternoon off of work to do my key workout #1 for week 10. It was 2x4 miles at MP with half mile recovery between intervals. I started out with a 2 mile warm-up then headed to the park. I kept the pace between 7:45 and 8:00 min pace, trying to improve on my fitness level. It was hard, but comfortable. I took a little longer recovery, knowing the the next interval would be tough. I … [Read more...]
Remember When?
Keeping on the music theme I thought about the song "Remember When?" by Alan Jackson. Not to downplay (no pun intended) the theme of the song but I began to add my owns words to the song. "Remember when 9 miles seemed like a long run". Now it is a mid-week run for me. I was amazed at how quickly I returned to my house. What a beautiful day. It was 61 degrees, sunny, and a 15 mph SE wind. … [Read more...]
The Dangers of Running on a Treadmill
I'm in Dallas for a wound care course. Since I did workout #2 of week 9 on Wednesday this weekend will be workout #1 which is 3, 3 mile intervals at marathon pace. The weather here is not that nice and my hotel is pretty isolated so I opted for the treadmill. The course got out at 18:00 and I was on the treadmill by 18:30. If I didn't rush to get started I would have never gone. Seeing it is … [Read more...]
Last One Standing
I went to do my key workout #1 for week 9 while staying at a Hyatt on business. I was one of the first in the workout room at primetime. I staked out my Lifefitness treadmill. It had a 12 tv screen built in. If it wasn't for that I would have been staring at a wall. Did I mention, no fans. The sweat poured off me. I watched as people came in and worked out, then left. I was still on the … [Read more...]
Epiphany
I convinced Danoh to step off the treadmill, take off his dress, and join me outside for a "real" run. Today we were supposed to do 5, 2 mile intervals. So, this was going to be an 11 mile mid-week run. This is a lot for me during the week. I don't think I've run 11 miles in 1 day during the week that wasn't a holiday. Plus, I was just started to feel better from my sickness. It was dark, a … [Read more...]
A Hard 10
A Hard 10 for key workout number 1 of week 8 for the 12 week marathon training plan. I met up with Jason a mile into the run. He convinced me to run outside, in the blizzard like conditions. Oh how I love the treadmill when is cold out. Anyhow, we kept a solid 8:00 pace or less all the way to the park. On the way back we picked it up a bit. I felt rather good for some reason and forgot Jason … [Read more...]
