Today, had to be some of the worst weather we have had this week (It is only Tuesday.) It topped out at 82 degrees yesterday and today hit a high of 56... It is training race Tuesday and with a forecast for rain it looked pretty hopeless. So I did a quick lunch run on the treadmill. I cranked that baby up to a 7:30 mile and did a 5k. 5 o'clock rolled around and it was about 52 degrees and a … [Read more...]
Indoor Brick
It rained out all morning and I really didn't think it would turn out to be such a nice day. Any how I got my workout in early on Memorial Day. I wanted to see how my legs would do with the reverese brick. The Capital City Biathlon is Saturday and I have not really tried a run, bike. Usually for a triathlon a brick could be a bike, run. The difference is big and your legs can feel it. I … [Read more...]
Running with IG
The weather has been more then uncooperative. Between the wind, the rain and the damn cold temps, I will probably be running on the treadmill in the middle of summer. I did't have a whole lot of time, so I thought I would change things up. I put on the Iron Girl total body workout. But instead of riding my bike on the trainer, I opted for the treadmill. I started our with a warm-up mile … [Read more...]
A Slow Start to Speed Work
With a list of 5ks, 10ks and sprint triathlons I need to start speeding up from my marathon pace. Today I did a one mile warm up and then 4x400 on the treadmill with 1 lap recovering between repeats. I did a 6:40, 6:00, 6:40, and 6:00. After gracing the 6:00 pace, I wondered how those fast runners do this for 5ks, 10ks, all the way up to the marathon.I read today in the latest edition of … [Read more...]
Brick House
I guess brick in the house would be more appropriate. I rode for a little over a half hour at tempo pace. Then hoped on the treadmill for a 5k. Nothing spectacular, I just want to make sure my legs would turn after the ride. I am not sure if I will make to the Pioneer Sprint, I haven't been in a pool since October. … [Read more...]
First Run
Today was my first run after the marathon. I did 3 easy miles on the treadmill. It took 4 days before my legs felt good enough. Although I did ride the trainer twice this week (with no blog post.) I seem to be on some sort of marathon high this week. The stormy weather has given me a chance to recover without much guilt. I had planned on going to our local training races (cycling) on Tuesday … [Read more...]
6 Days and Counting
Six days until the St. Louis Marathon. It is hard to believe our twelve (13) week training plan is coming to an end. I took yesterday off after the 15 miles on Sunday. Today I headed to the treadmill for a cool 5 miles. My knee seems to be holding together after a tough couple of weeks. I also seem to have gotten the marathon bug back. At least I am somewhat interested in doing it now... … [Read more...]
Feeling Guilty?
A beautiful day, with a high around 50, and I go for the control environment of the treadmill. With the wife out of town, I had someone watch the kids for a few hours so I could get a workout in. Jason was not available to train today seeing he is doing some heavy binge drinking. I hope I install some guilt with the post. My workout started with 30 minutes on the trainer. I had purchased a … [Read more...]
Love Me Two Times
I went and bought a patellar tendon strap at the Springfield Running Center yesturday. I was praying this would solve my knee problem. I tried it out on the treadmill for a 3 mile lunch workout. It felt pretty good. I increased and decrease the elevation to test it out on a hill. Towards the end of the workout my knee felt a little funny, but good. After work I tried to over do it, by … [Read more...]
Bad Memory
I attempted to do key workout #1 today. I did a mile warm up and then started my first of two 4 mile intervals at a 7:30 pace. I made it 3 mile, and decided to call it quits. My knee was acting up. It funny because I kind of forgot about my knee, that first mile. I didn't feel any pain. But then my memory came back to me... I definitly need to give it a rest until Saturday. … [Read more...]
