Some terrible weather this week has kept me inside. I have gotten to know Coach Troy rather well over the winter months. Today was no different, so I opted for the Time Trialpolooza dvd. This is a very tough cycling workout that last around 1:20. You can see more details about it in a preivous post. … [Read more...]
Feeling Guilty?
A beautiful day, with a high around 50, and I go for the control environment of the treadmill. With the wife out of town, I had someone watch the kids for a few hours so I could get a workout in. Jason was not available to train today seeing he is doing some heavy binge drinking. I hope I install some guilt with the post. My workout started with 30 minutes on the trainer. I had purchased a … [Read more...]
Time Trialapalooza
Ya know I think I went to this thing back in the 90's. I seem to remember the Red Hot Chili Pepper, Pearl Jam, and Coach Troy? Well I am not sure where Coach Troy came up with this name for his Spinnerval 22.0 workout. He probably pays someone big buck for names like that. Anyhow... This is a good hour and twenty minute workout on the trainer. You can break this work out down into stair … [Read more...]
Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah…
It is getting really hard to make this post each week when I do the same Iron Girl Workout. You are probably wondering why I do this workout week after week. I guess I do it for a couple of reasons. I like getting on the bike, I really think it is helping my runs. The strength training is a killer workout. Need I say more... … [Read more...]
Slow but Hard
After taking Monday off to rest my knee, I hit the trainer today for an Iron Girl Workout. My legs still felt heavy, but strong. I made it through the workout cursing coach Troy. Every time I watch the video, he says "it will get easier, I guarantee it." I have been doing this workout somewhat regularly and NO COACH, its not getting any easier! I hope this cycing session helps my knee, … [Read more...]
Coach Troy on Endurance Planet
Endurance Planet, a great podcasting website does a "You ask the coach" episode, every week or so. I wrote in to Endurance Planet sometime ago to ask Coach Troy a question regarding strength training. My question was about incorporating strength training into my marathon training plan. Is it best to lift before or after a run? Coach Troy starts of by saying how important strength training is to … [Read more...]
Worn Out
Trying to recover from the long run on Sunday, I went ahead and did the Iron Girl workout. I like getting a ride in. It really gets your tired legs moving. I made it for about 45 minutes and quite before doing the lunges. I didn't think my legs had it in them. I did feel better afterwards. I am going to take Tuesday off to recover. … [Read more...]
Thank You Abe
Today is President's day and that means a day off from work. The kids had a birthday party to attend, so that gave me a good 2 hours to work out. I wanted to do some strength training, so I chose the Iron Girl workout again. When I finished I followed up with 5 on the treadmill, at a pretty good pace. I did the last three around a 7:00 minute pace. I felt great. Today, I also started with … [Read more...]
Springfield Tri Club
An email went out from the Springfield Triathon Club that they were going to start having Sunday training sessions at the new Sports Care Building. I thought to myself, what a great opportunity to train with someone besides my tv set. The idea was people could bring their trainers and bikes and we would watch a training video. Well it turns out I was the only one to show up, besides John … [Read more...]
Ride and Stride
Let's rename it ride and no stride. Spinervals 10.0 a great 60 minute workout on the trainer with Coach Troy. I am trying to stay off my right foot for a couple of days to let it heal. I hope this weekends run, key workout #2, a half marathon at race pace, is pain free. I am not looking forward to it. … [Read more...]
