The Hot & Sunny Capital City Biathlon

IMG_8821[Results] [Photos] A beautiful day for the 2nd Capital City Biathlon at Lake Springfield.  The temps were in the upper 70s with just a tad of humidity for the start of the race.  The turnout easily doubled for this years race.

The course includes a 3.1 mile run followed by a 15 mile bike ride. This race was sanctioned by USA Triathlon and is chip timed, which was a great improvement over last year.  Athleticare and Biketek were the title sponsors for this event. The race was held to help promote Habitat for Humanity.

A new course record was also set by one of the teams.  Team BikeTek Blazing set a 5:15 pace on the 5k run and 25.6mph average on the bike for a whopping 51:54.  Wow!

John Lawyer move up this year to take the win in the Mens division with a 57:03.  Defending champion Eric Sommer did not return.

The Chesser Family will have to take to honors by bringing home the most bling.  Bette, Tom and Emily all took home age group wins.  Now that is a family team in training!

Thanks to our great Hardy Breed Photographer Tom K. who took over 400 great photos of the race!
