Abe’s Amble 10K Race

The Springfield Road Runners Club (SRRC) is sponsoring the 32nd annual Abe’s Amble 10K race Sunday, August 23rd, 2009 starting at 7:30 a.m. This unique, challenging 10k course starts and finishes on the Illinois State Fairgrounds and runs through Springfield’s scenic North End, Lincoln Park, and Oak Ridge Cemetery. Runners will pass Abraham Lincoln’s tomb, as well as the State of Illinois memorials to the Vietnam War, Korean War, and Word War II. Over 1,400 runners are expected to participate. Abe’s Amble is a series race for the SRRC, Illinois Valley Striders and Decatur Running Club.

The cost is $20 until August 7th. After that, online registration is $25 through August 20th. All paper registrations are $30. The fee includes a technical race shirt designed to commemorate the Lincoln bicentennial, post-race party, tag timing and entry into the Illinois State Fair. Parking is available through gates 8 and 11.

The SRRC is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote and encourage long distance running through the education of the community on the benefits of physical fitness and sports. It has 1,200 members throughout the Springfield area.
