I need my water wings back

By Kim • Aug 13th, 2008 • Category: Kim's Training Log

I went to Wednesday night track practice early tonight.  Reily had football at 1800.  I did a 1 mile warm up, and then 5×1k @ 5k pace.  I wanted to do each one at a 6:30-6:45 pace.  The first three I kept in this range, although each one was slower, and the last 2, well, I was just happy to finish them.  It was not a good night at the track.

After the track I went to the pool to do a max-ox interval set.  A 400 warm up, then 6x 300 @ a 4:15 pace. 1min rest.  I know I hadn’t been in the pool since Saturday, but can you forget how to swim in 3 days?  I felt like a 4 year old swimming for the first time with out their water wings.  My splits weren’t terrible, but not great.  My form felt sloppy from the get go.  I finished the set, and did a 500 pull, 200 cool down.

I guess you can’t feel you best everyday.  You have to have a bad one every now and then, to appreciate the good ones.
