Sportscare Women’s Biathlon

My day started with a 05:30 wake up call. I knew it had been raining the whole night and by the looks of it wasn’t going to stop anytime soon. My Mom showed up at my house to watch the kids and I left the house around 06:00. Even thought I knew the bike would probably be cancelled I set out putting up signs along the bike course in the pouring rain. It was going to be a wet and messy job so I just wore shorts and flip flops-no shirt or shoes because what was the point.

Washington St. was almost impassable by my house and the country roads were even more difficult to navigate. About 06:30 the call was made to cancel the bike portion due to safety concerns but the run was still on. Hopefully everyone got the message in time and wasn’t too disappointed. It just wasn’t safe. I think people were realistic and were just happy we were still holding the run.

I was amazed that 67/179 Hardy Breedetts participated. I’m not sure if I would have even run if I was allowed. It was cold, rainy, and windy. We were all huddled in the tent trying to stay warm when 5 minutes before the start was announced. I watched as all the brave souls stepped out into the downpour. I didn’t get to see the race but I did get to see HardyBreed Kim finish in first place looking strong and relaxed.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed the race and health fair. I would like to thank all the volunteers and spectators who braved the horrible conditions to make the event happen. I hope to see everyone next year (hopefully in better weather).
