Fingers Crossed

By Jason • Jul 7th, 2008 • Category: Jason's Training Log

I stopped by R&M today to check on the progress of my bike.  Rich gave me some good news, I think.  He said the bike was stripped and frame shipped off to Trek headquarters.  Trek thinks they might be able to fix my frame (is that a good thing?).  There is some kind of melting/gluing process for carbon fiber (who knew?).  I’m not really sure and actually don’t really want to know but fixing the frame will be a hell of a lot cheaper than purchasing a new frame.  With price being the main issue, integrity is not.  I’ll keep my fingers crossed and take what I can get.

  1. I am sure MacGyver could take care of it with a role of duck tape and a few bobbie pins.

  2. I had a steel frame one time that cracked at the head tube–a buddy welded it back–It looked awful but rode the same–Im sure Trek could do something!

  3. It’s the carbon fiber I am worried about, not asthetics. I don”t want to go down again because of some sketchy gluing process. I had a Trek2300 once that got cracked around the bottom bracket. They replaced the whole frame for free. It wasn’t from a crash, though, just faluty carbon fiber.

  4. I hear ya there–I guess as long as you keep Ben off your wheel you should be safe!
