Still with low motivation but I drug myself into the basement. Began with 3 sets of 7 dips, 3 sets of 21 reverse crunches on the Tower of Power, 3 sets of 11 standing military presses with 25# weights, 3 sets of 11 shoulder shrugs with 25# dumbbells, and 3 sets of 21 crunches on the ball. Finished the night with 30 minutes on the trainer. Now my adductors feel tight AND my ankle still hurts. … [Read more...]
On the Road Again
I am not sure if Willie Nelson is a runner, but I will take a guess and say "no." I made it out for a 4.5 mile run today, trying to nurse my knee back into the swing of things. Once again there was no pain for the first mile and a half. Then came a hill, and another. The pain below my knee cap came back. I did a run walk on the way home. The pain wasn't bad, but I did not want to make … [Read more...]
Time Trialapalooza
Ya know I think I went to this thing back in the 90's. I seem to remember the Red Hot Chili Pepper, Pearl Jam, and Coach Troy? Well I am not sure where Coach Troy came up with this name for his Spinnerval 22.0 workout. He probably pays someone big buck for names like that. Anyhow... This is a good hour and twenty minute workout on the trainer. You can break this work out down into … [Read more...]
No Frills
Nothing special today. Low motivation and ankle hurting. Thirty minutes on the trainer. … [Read more...]
Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah…
It is getting really hard to make this post each week when I do the same Iron Girl Workout. You are probably wondering why I do this workout week after week. I guess I do it for a couple of reasons. I like getting on the bike, I really think it is helping my runs. The strength training is a killer workout. Need I say more... … [Read more...]
What? No Sport Beans!
Ok, so the Easter Bunny didn't leave me a basket full of sport beans, so I took Easter as a rest day. I could bearly move after the stupid run on Saturday. If I could have chopped of my left leg I would have been fine. So for the next few days you will hear nothing but blogs from the saddle. … [Read more...]
It Sucks Running With You
This was a quote from my training partner and friend, Dan, about 4 miles into our run on Saturday. You can tell how close we are and the love he shares. The actual quote was "It sucks running with you because I don't get to listen to my podcasts". Well, the quote started bad but didn't end so bad. I can't say the same for our run. It started out bad and ended even worse. What was … [Read more...]
Pathetic Run
I knew it was going to be bad today. After doing key workout #1 yesturday and waking up with a sore knee, I probably should have held off today. I went ahead and met Jason at our usual corner, to attempt 18 miles. After about 2 miles I was hoping my leg would just fall off. Jason slowed down enough for me to keep up. Eventually Jason's ankle started hurting and out 18 mile jaunt turn … [Read more...]
Back to Back
After some time off my knee felt pretty good. So I thought I would make up for my poor attempt at key workout #1. I headed out late afternoon with a surpising bounce in my stride. But after a mile or so, some hint of knee pain set in. I ran through it, and it seem to have disappeared? I kept a solid pace of 7:30 for my first 4 mile tempo. It was a tail wind to the park so I knew I … [Read more...]
Spring Ritual
As we pass from Winter into Spring a ritual of mine has been taking place for the past 20 or so years. That is the annual leg shaving. No training on this gorgeous day only making myself more aerodynamic (or at least feeling that way) by shaving my face and legs. It sure does feel good and somehow makes you more focused on the impending season. A commitment has been made. Now I am ready … [Read more...]
