When it rains, it PRs.

Last week's workout was once again met with thunderstorms.  The rain came in about an hour before we met and I'm sure it kept most everyone (and you know who you are) away.  Six die-hards showed up for what was to be a great workout.  It turned out to be nearly ideal as far as weather and conditions were concerned.  The temps were relatively cool and there wasn't much wind.  If it wasn't for … [Read more...]

Ironman Wisconsin Recon

Registering for a race, you have never seen takes guts or maybe stupidity. Ironman Wisconsin is the only 140.6 race that is within a 4hr proximity of central Illinois. You would think that makes it the perfect option. Unfortunately for me the terrain of central Illinois is extremely different than that 4 hours north. This was the main reason for the Ironman Wisconsin reconnaissance. I heard … [Read more...]

New City TT

Today was my first ride at the New City Time Trial for the year.  Although I have been getting in some mileage on the bike I haven't had too many solo rides.  It's time to start with some hard efforts, solo. I was surprised by the turnout tonight.  There must have been close to 30 riders.  It's cool to see that many participating.  Some first timers, some old timers, some experienced, and … [Read more...]

“hail… NO!”

Well, the last couple of weeks have been quite eventful (but not from the running-side of things).  Two weeks ago Lawyer met at my house and we were just heading out when the rains came.  We waited a few minutes to start our warmup run to the track.  The rain got heavier.  Eventually we decided to drive there and wait it out with everyone at the track.  We made it to the end of my street and … [Read more...]

I didn't spend a lot of a time at the Virgina BBQ last weekend, but my Husband made up for my absence.  I did make it down, or up whatever, Saturday morning for the return of the Virgina BBQ 5K!  My bff Courtney came to run too.  I don't know haw may years it has been since the last 5k, but I hope the do this race again next year.  The registration fee was only 5$, and we received a … [Read more...]

My Own Private Century

my-own-private-idaho1

I took today off work to get in some long miles.  I haven't yet broken the century mark this year so I was in need of some quality miles.  The plan was to at least hit triple digits on mileage.  I knew the wind was going to be out of the SW but I didn't feel like riding all day on flat roads south of town.  Especially not by myself.  Today was going to be a solo ride. Leaving the house at … [Read more...]

Biathlon, Baseball and Beer

biathlon

What could be better on a  Saturday?  I started out the day by heading out to the Springfield Biathlon.  I got to the beach house around 0645 with both scewers in my bike!  This was already going to be a good race.  I picked up my chip and set up my transition area.  Why is it so much easier with out the swim? All the women went out in wave 3.  I started out the run feeling good.  I let … [Read more...]

Capital City Biathlon

My day started at 05:00.  I woke up early to get in a solid breakfast.  Around 06:00 I left the house heading toward the race with my gear in a backpack.  The ride to the race ended up being just over 17 miles.  A good warm-up.  It was pleasant and traffic-free with little wind.  Just what I needed.  I arrived at the Beach House just before 07:00. Having been pre-registered and already … [Read more...]

Sprint Night with No Sprints

gary-doering

After missing out on Lunch with Eric, I thought I might have some pretty decent legs for the training race.  I was wrong!   I got out for a short run before the training race, taking in 4 miles.  It was humid as hell. After that I changed out my soaking wet running clothes for my cycling kit. I met up with Romanotto, for a brief warm up on the bike.  I think I talked him into doing the … [Read more...]
