To quote Jim Carey in The Mask, "Somebody stop me!" That was all I could hope for on today's run. I logged in just over 19 miles on my Garmin 301. That is over 40 for the week! I will say it wasn't easy. I probably stopped and walked a half a dozen times in the last 4 miles. I was pretty much delusional... I took 2 bottles of Accelerade, a bag of Sport Beans and a Clif Bar. I … [Read more...]
Too Nice Outside
With the temperature at 48 degrees I gave in to temptation. I put in an easy 4 miles on my day off. Of course once I started my run the clouds came out and it cooled off. I am looking forward to 18 miles tomorrow. :-D … [Read more...]
IU vs. UI
Another 21:00 workout. After I put the kids to bed I hopped on the trainer and watched the second half of my alma mater (University of Illinois) play the #13 ranked Indiana Hoosiers. It was a heartbreaking loss for my Fighting Illini in double overtime. 30 minutes of moderate effort followed by 3 sets of 15 crunches on the therapy ball and I felt pretty good. It's time to get the case down … [Read more...]
A Hard Five

I wouldn't say I put forth a hard effort, but had a hard time getting through it. 5 miles logged on the treadmill at a 8:30 pace. My legs and butt were both sore, from lifting and running yesturday, but I finished. I might take tomorrow off to prepare for Saturdays 18. … [Read more...]
PTO
33 degrees and sleeting with a 19 mph wind out the west. Ahhhh, the Midwest in February. I took the day off of work and was heading out for workout 1 of week 5 in our training program. After 2 or 3 days of temperatures above freezing most of the snow had melted but a light dusting occurred this morning. The sidewalks were passable but slushy. Occasionally I would have to run on the road … [Read more...]
Running in the Dark
It was dark outside but I was in the comfort of my warm home. I was not able to run until 8 pm. I am not sure if I have ever waited this long, but I had pizza for dinner. I was on my workout #1 for week 5 of marathon training plan. I started off will a warm up mile at 8:30 pace. Then I went into my 3x2 mile intervals with a .5 mile recovery in between. I felt pretty tired because I lifted … [Read more...]
Never Felt So Good
WOOHOO! I finally got the replacement parts back for my Trek Cyclops trainer. I rode the trainer for 30 minutes. It never felt so good to sit in one place and sweat like a two-peckered billy goat. I actually missed the damn thing. … [Read more...]
Meet my best friend, Mr. Treadmill
34 degrees and raining... No choice but to hang out with Mr. Treadmill. I hit the revolving belt for 5 miles today at 7:30 pace. I felt great and put forth a good effort. I did get to catch up on the CNN Election Result. … [Read more...]
vomitorium
Workout 2 of week 4 was painful. Secondary to the weather outside being frightful Danoh and I decided to do the 5K at race pace indoors on the treadmill. I had hoped for a 20:30-21:00 minute run but this turned out to be a 22:28 minute run. Man, it sucked! I haven't been that close to blowing chunks in a long time. The treadmill seemed anaerobically harder than on the road. My leg … [Read more...]
