The Day Before….

Danoh and I are running 20 miles tomorrow.  So today was an easy workout.  The weather was cold and windy.  With a day at the St. Paddy's Day parade thrown in made it easy to have a recovery day. I began with 3 sets of 5 dips and 3 sets of 11 reverse crunches on the Tower of Power.  This was followed by 30 minutes on the trainer.  The session ended with 3 sets of 21 crunches on the ball, 3 … [Read more...]

Another 20:30 Workout

Once again I had to put the kids to sleep before getting some "Jason" time.  So my workout began at 20:30 with dips x 3 x 5 and reverse crunches x 3 x 11 on the Tower of Power.  Next I rode the trainer for 30 minutes.  Those 30 minutes went by fast as the conference basketball tournaments are on TV.  It felt good to spin on the trainer as my legs are still sore from yesterday's running … [Read more...]

Remember When?

Keeping on the music theme I thought about the song "Remember When?" by Alan Jackson.  Not to downplay (no pun intended) the theme of the song but I began to add my owns words to the song.  "Remember when 9 miles seemed like a long run".  Now it is a mid-week run for me.  I was amazed at how quickly I returned to my house. What a beautiful day.  It was 61 degrees, sunny, and a 15 mph SE … [Read more...]

The Dangers of Running on a Treadmill

I'm in Dallas for a wound care course.  Since I did workout #2 of week 9 on Wednesday this weekend will be workout #1 which is 3, 3 mile intervals at marathon pace.  The weather here is not that nice and my hotel is pretty isolated so I opted for the treadmill.  The course got out at 18:00 and I was on the treadmill by 18:30.  If I didn't rush to get started I would have never gone.  Seeing … [Read more...]

The Day After

Ouch!  The day after my long run was really tough.  I was actually limping at work for a while.  After a couple of Ibuprofens, some stretching, and elevation of my legs I was ready to crawl onto my trainer. Since I would be traveling tomorrow I HAD to exercise today.   I know my limits and knew I wouldn't want to do anything after a long day of traveling with the kids.  So I rode the … [Read more...]

I Alone

Another title from one of my top 5 bands.  "I Alone" describes my run today.  I am heading to Dallas on Friday so I decided to flip-flop workouts and do workout #2 today instead of #1.  I had the day off and knew I wouldn't be able to run 22 miles over the weekend. It had snowed the day before but the temperature was rising slowly.  Which was good and bad.  The good news was that the snow … [Read more...]

Another 4.5

Another 4.5 inches of freakin' snow fell today.  I am so sick of shoveling the driveway.  Luckily it only took me 45 minutes this time.  Can I call that a workout?  More snow means tomorrow's run is gonna suck.  I am planning for 22 miles tomorrow. I rode the trainer for another 30 minutes today.  I tried to use a slightly bigger gear to get more of a workout.  It was a pretty good ride … [Read more...]

Wastin’ Time….Not

I was the opposite of the Skid Row song "Wastin' Time" today.  I took advantage of spare time and a beautiful day.  It was 70 degrees and sunny with a pretty hefty south wind.  I was still pretty sore from yesterday's run but I couldn't miss out on the fabulous weather.  I went out for a 4.5 mile jog in shorts and t-shirt.  It felt like I was naked considering I'm used to tights and at least … [Read more...]

Nervous

I was a little nervous going into today's run.  It was supposed to be 16 miles run at 10% slower than marathon pace or about 08:45/mile.  I have been feeling better since my sickness but today was going to be my first long run in a while.  Normally 16 isn't that bad considering the miles we had been putting in but I missed last weekend's 20 mile run and the previous was just 10 miles.  … [Read more...]

Epiphany

I convinced Danoh to step off the treadmill, take off his dress, and join me outside for a "real" run.  Today we were supposed to do 5, 2 mile intervals.  So, this was going to be an 11 mile mid-week run.  This is a lot for me during the week.  I don't think I've run 11 miles in 1 day during the week that wasn't a holiday.  Plus, I was just started to feel better from my sickness.  It was … [Read more...]
