After the Dan Dungan workout, I thought a day at the track might be good for me. Eric had cooked up a killer workout that lasted no more than 15 minutes or so. The workout was to start with progressive quarters. 2:00 for the first and 5 seconds less for each quarter. lap 1: 2:00 lap 2: 1:55 lap 3: 1:50 lap 4 1:45 (1 mile) lap 5: 1:40 lap 6: 1:35 lap 7: 1:30 lap 8: 1:25 (2 … [Read more...]
Ironman for a day
In preparation for the Augusta 70.3, Longhorn 70.3 and the Ironman World Championship in Kona. A group of guys, Dan Dungan, Travis Shroll, Steven Graves and I started the day 5:50 in the morning at Dan's house. Then plan was 2.5k in the pool, 3hr bike, and 10k run. We walked to the Illini Country Club with the moon lighting our path. Thinking the water could be a little cool, I packed … [Read more...]
Kind of like Dean

Saturday was I was kind of like Dean Karnazes 50/50. Except I didn't run 50 marathons in 50 states. Instead I did a 50 mile ride with a 50 minute run afterward. I think you can see the resemblance... I assembled the posse, Sommers and Lawyer. We decided to ride the TT bikes to Petersburg. Eric's bike is still new, so it wasn't hard to convince him. I have got to get ready for … [Read more...]
Cry Baby

During the training races this year, I have had several feelings/emotions go through my head. Some times I just want to close my eyes and fall asleep. Sometimes I am full of laughter and grit my teeth. Today all I wanted to do was cry. The group was small to begin with and got even smaller by the end of the the night. It was kind of funny talking with Fergurson. He mentioned how … [Read more...]
No more lolly gagging!
After wasting myself on Saturday and Sunday. I was up for the challenge of Lunch with Eric. It was a ladder, 200, 400, 600, 800, 600, 400, 200. For some reason I felt like pushing myself today, and I tried to keep up with the bunch. I think these were my splits. Let me know if I am way off. (I can manage a website, but not a Timex watch...) 0:41, 1:20, 02:06, 2:46, 2:12, 1:16, … [Read more...]
Returning to the scene of an accident
I will tell you my motivation has been pretty low lately. It happens every year around this time. The summers races are over and fall is just around the corner. What I needed was a pick me up and registering for Longhorn Ironman 70.3 Austin was just what the doctor ordered. The race will be my longest yet and just 60+ days out. Last weekends RailSplitter Tri really put thing into … [Read more...]
Cramping where Lincoln Cramped
I really wasn’t all that enthusiastic about doing the Railsplitter Triathlon. But I thought the intermediate distance would be good to add to my training resume. A 1 mile swim, 36 mile bike, and 7 mile run was going to be interesting to say the least, so I registered. $90 later I found myself picking up Jason at 5:00 am to head to Petersburg. It was still dark outside when we pulled up to … [Read more...]
Rock Mountain High
What a long week it has been. It all started out after a 14 hour drive to Boulder Colorado. I had some friends get married and they were having a reception at his parents organic farm. Boulder is a very "Green" city and they make you aware of that with everything that you do. From the recycling to the farmer's market to the hippies playing hacky sack. In my down time on the trip, I had … [Read more...]
Lunch without Eric?

Yes, the title of the post sounds so sad... But don't get me wrong there was lunch and there was Eric. He did show up but sat on the bench with his son eating BK, fingerbanging the runners. Bang, Bang, Bang! No fries left for the runners, Billy took control and started the workout. 800, 400, 800, 400. Sound pretty easy huh? Well, I always say it is what you make of it. And I am not … [Read more...]
“A” for Iron Abe
This was my first time doing the Iron Abe, but my forth year in the tri fest. I have always done the sprint race until now. Going into this summer's "A" race has been difficult. I have stayed "dry" or "almost dry" for the last two weeks and my training and diet have been spot on. After the Evergreen Triathlon, I jumped into a week of maintainence training. I even missed out on my … [Read more...]
