A new record for the season was set tonight by Jake Buescher, but only by a second! Finishers 1, 2 & 3 were separated by only 8 seconds! Another great night at New City-the temp was 75, a little windy, but there were 34 riders including 7 new people! Welcome Mike Scott, Ted Hamilton, David Carron, TJ Schlouski, Eric Wise, Justin Sawyer & Molly Canum! Thanks a ton to Mitch Johnson for stopping by & helping at the last minute with catching the rider’s numbers at the finish line—I had missed at least 9 of you, trying to hit the stopwatch & write at the same time! Jeff Williams showed up on an old Pinarello funny bike-650c front wheel & a super-low stem. He only lost about a minute from his best time this year! William Henebry was on his fixie, as usual, but he broke the 30-minute mark tonight! Many, many of the riders set new PR’s tonight, sometimes by nearly 2 minutes-Great Job! We had another great night at New City tonight! The weather held off for us again-on my way home, I found that it had rained in Rochester, but not on the course! Thanks to my good friend Dave Loyd for coming down from Morton to participate tonight! We loaned him a Cervelo & he tore up the course! We all ate some dust & bugs, as the farmers were picking corn right next to the road. Lisa set a scorching time tonight-because she drafted off every wheel that she could grab! No problem-that is still a hard effort & will make you stronger. Almost everyone had new PR’s tonight-Great Job! Mike wins & is the oldest rider, the slowest rider STILL AVERAGED OVER 22 MPH! We have a pretty fast crowd, that’s for sure!

If you haven’t heard, the current issue of Bicycling magazine (October 2010) has a list of the top 50 shop rides in the country-New City is on the list! But what makes it a great ride is YOU! Lots of friendly people with the same interest and a welcoming environment. Thanks to all of you who have continued to make this a successful event! I love putting it on for all of you & appreciate your participation, your friendship, your helpfulness, and when we make a mistake, your forgiveness. Thanks again!

Sorry this took so long to get the results to you all. Those of you who were there know there was a problem with the timing-Brennan hit the wrong button on the stopwatch & cleared the memory – SORRY! And thanks for help from Tracy, getting the numbers put together & to all of the riders for their help and patience. To get these results, we took the times from the riders who tracked their own time, then added or subtracted a guessed number for the riders who were either ahead or behind those riders. I’m confident that we have everyone within 15 seconds of their actual time.

Welcome 3 new riders, Mitch Johnson, Andrew Horin & Larry Perko! There were 33 riders tonight – 16 of you had OVER 1-MINUTE IMPROVEMENTS!!! Great job!!! Rob Brokaw set a new best time for the season at 22:45. His best time for 2008, and was the record for that year was 22:56. His best time for 2009, and was a record for THAT year was 22:35. Way to go, Robo! You’re closing in on it!

New Record tonight! Bette Chesser set a new best time for the Ladies at 26:15, beating the old record (hers) of 26:26! Congratulations, Bette! She beat her husband, Tom again, too—

This is one of the largest turnouts we’ve had, if not the largest with 33 riders! And get this-25 of you had new PR’s tonight! Five of those had over 2 minute improvements!!!!
Adam Sergent 2:24 improvement, John Hulcher 2:10 improvement, Kent Kraft 2:07 improvement, Brenda Reiling 2:05 improvement and Neil Glessner 2:04 improvement! Great work!

The running competition between Lisa & Marilyn has another twist tonight: They both had improvements over their last PR by 1:12! Creepy.

Justin & Robo went to run at Decatur’s time trial tonight, with the Zipp demo & pro rider (and food, I hear!). I hope things went well for them! Now, about that record: Rob Brokaw held the course record, set last year at 22:35. The course is longer this year-about .6miles. Rob found a formula to calculate what the corrected time would be, given the new length. That would add 11 seconds, making the previous course record for the new distance 22:46.

There is a TT tomorrow night near Petersburg at 6PM. If you need info about that, you can call me at work at 787-2907. Dave Bagot puts that one on. Thanks to Arden Gregory who showed up on his bike, too tired to race, but wanted to help. So I asked him to monitor the turn-around point. So he got to ride the course anyway! Kenny Vennell had a function to attend tonight with his kids, but wanted to get in a course time-so he came early, rode the course & timed himself at 28:08-that is added in the listing below. That is a first here! Great dedication, Kenny! Thanks also to Jeff Williams who came to help out. The last thanks go to Tom Chesser, who came with the intention of riding-only to find the only shoes that were brought did not match the pedals on his bike. At least he had pedals (remember Gene Rupnik a few weeks ago?). But he didn’t want to ride that distance wearing Crocs on Speedplay pedals.

I need a timer! T.J.’s work shift changed this season & won’t be able to time for us.

I made a mistake starting the TT tonight, so we will meet NEXT Wednesday, April 14, 2010. Then every 2 weeks. I will send email reminders, as usual.

We made a few changes tonight, which will carry for the rest of the season. The riders numbering system that we have been using for the last few years (thanks, John Nelson for that idea!) is still being used, with the exception that each rider will keep his/her number for the season. For all past riders, the number represents their ranking as of best time ran in 2009. For new riders this season, their number will be the next in sequence. The course is a little longer, at 10.85 miles, and riders are being started at 15 second intervals, instead of the usual 30 second gap. For those who want to get in a run after biking, I marked out .2, .4, .5, .6, .8 & 1.0 mile marks on the road heading east toward Lake Sangchris.

IMPORTANT: as soon as possible from the time you arrive to race, check in at the timers car so the start list can be prepared as quickly as possible, so we can get riding – THANKS!

Out of 28 riders, only 4 did not set a new PR-Keith Buescher loaned his TT bike to his son, Jake. Dan Dungan’s rear brake was rubbing the whole way.  Justin & Rob, well, it’s hard to improve on the 2 best times!  Rob was only off his RECORD by 4 seconds & Justin missed his best by 8 seconds.  Lots of riders took HUGE chunks of time off-some over 1 1/2 minutes.
