Thank God for Your Training Partner!

To quote Jim Carey in The Mask,  "Somebody stop me!"  That was all I could hope for on today's run.  I logged in just over 19 miles on my Garmin 301.  That is over 40 for the week!  I will say it wasn't easy.  I probably stopped and walked a half a dozen times in the last 4 miles.  I was pretty much delusional...  I took 2 bottles of Accelerade, a bag of Sport Beans and a Clif Bar.  I wanted to … [Read more...]

Too Nice Outside

With the temperature at 48 degrees I gave in to temptation.  I put in an easy 4 miles on my day off.  Of course once I started my run the clouds came out and it cooled off.  I am looking forward to 18 miles tomorrow. :-D … [Read more...]

A Hard Five

I wouldn't say I put forth a hard effort, but had a hard time getting through it. 5 miles logged on the treadmill at a 8:30 pace. My legs and butt were both sore, from lifting and running yesturday, but I finished. I might take tomorrow off to prepare for Saturdays 18. … [Read more...]

Running in the Dark

It was dark outside but I was in the comfort of my warm home. I was not able to run until 8 pm. I am not sure if I have ever waited this long, but I had pizza for dinner. I was on my workout #1 for week 5 of marathon training plan. I started off will a warm up mile at 8:30 pace. Then I went into my 3x2 mile intervals with a .5 mile recovery in between. I felt pretty tired because I lifted … [Read more...]

Race against myself

Workout #2 for week 4 of my St. Louis Marathon training plan.  I did a 5k at race pace on the treadmill.  I wanted to finish around 20 minutes, but fell short by 30 seconds.  Not too bad for the off season.  I have not training at that intensity since October.  So, I am please with my results today, and hope that It helps my marathon training.  Next weekend I am back to the long run.  I am not … [Read more...]

5 miles up hill

Well, up hill on a treadmill.  I didn't get the balls to head outside today.  It is just so easy to head downstairs and hit the treadmill and watch tv.   The roads were as sloppy as Anna Nicole on Valium.  I didn't want to get my new shoes dirty.  So I did a easy run up hill, starting at 2% and increasing 1 every mile.  I was only running at 7mph or 8.34 pace.  The run was easy, and I wanted to … [Read more...]

Let it snow, let it snowshoe

A foot of snow.  It makes running kind of difficult.  But it is days like today, that you dust off your snow shoes and head for the golf course.  Yes, the golf course!  Thank God the one I went to was a 9 hole par 3 course. I bought a pair of Tubbs Catalyst 2 years ago.  These are not your grandfathers snow shoes.  These have a aluminum frame and titanium cleats.   They are wicked fast, until … [Read more...]

First Key workout for the week

It has already been a long training week.  I am in the middle of week 4 on my marathon training schedule.  I completed my key workout number 1 for the week on the treadmill.  It was 3x2 at MP with a half mile recovery between repeats.  I felt pretty good.  My  MP or marathon pace is 8:00 miles.  So doing 2 mile repeats at the 8:00 pace was not a big deal.  I ended up with 7 miles for the day.  I … [Read more...]
