“According to what people had been telling me beforehand the rainbow jersey was a possibility, but now that I’ve been able to check it out for myself, I’ll have to revise my ambitions.” … [Read more...]
9 Paceline Rules
KEEP THE PACE The number one mistake riders make is picking up speed when they get to the front. Some guys just want to show off; others are well-intentioned—they just aren't in tune with their effort and feel like they're supposed to take a pull, so they pull. … [Read more...]
Perspective

I know it has been a little while since I've posted. A lot has happened since my last post: Egan actually raced for the first time in nearly a decade. Nick actually made it out on a lunch run (on one of the worst possible days). Bean took 3rd overall at Ironman Wisconsin. I'll update everyone about my Ironman in a later post. The lunch group is putting it's finishing touches on their … [Read more...]
Ironman Wisconsin 2010 Race Report

All my eggs in one basket. That's how to sum up Ironman Wisconsin. Training for an ironman was one thing I had no experience at. A 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run, all put together in one event. I remember watching the Ironman World Championship on TV 4-5 years ago when I just got into triathlon. I thought to myself, there was no way I could ever do such that distance. … [Read more...]
New City Time Trial Results for Sept 15, 2010

We had another great night at New City tonight! The weather held off for us again-on my way home, I found that it had rained in Rochester, but not on the course! Thanks to my good friend Dave Loyd for coming down from Morton to participate tonight! We loaned him a Cervelo & he tore up the course! We all ate some dust & bugs, as the farmers were picking corn right next to the road. … [Read more...]
Caffeine-Free
It's been 1 week since I last had caffeine. I'm going caffeine-free in an effort to gain all the benefits possible from caffeine during portions of the Ironman. Hopefully it will give me the extra boost I need to get through some of the low points during my 13 hour event. Not the smartest thing to do before the biggest race of my career but noone has ever accused me of being smart. This … [Read more...]
Dog Days
Now that the dog-days of Summer are behind us, it's hard to imagine that stifling heat of Summer on the track. Last Tuesday's workout showed that Summer is not over just yet. It was a brutally hot day to be on the track at Noon. The guys fearlessly showed up and had 5 miles of pace work on the agenda (though one was cut due to the heat). 2 miles, mile & a mile were the flavors and the … [Read more...]
Less than one week

It is amazing how quickly one year has passed since I registered for Ironman Wisconsin. Now the hours are trickling away and there is nothing else to do but wait for the gun to go off. I am very nervous even though I know I am ready. I have had a year of stellar training, and working with Eric Bean on a late season training plan has really reassured my readiness. This week I will be … [Read more...]
Hamburger Toes

My feet will be happy when this Ironman training is over. Every long run ends with black and red toes. In all seriousness my feet are starting to hurt on long runs and I just hope that it won't affect me for IMWI. My weekend was full of continuing education. I took Saturday off so decided to go for a long run on Sunday. It was hotter than I anticipated. By mile 7 my socks were wet. … [Read more...]
New City Time Trial Results for Sept 1, 2010

Hey everyone! Well, the weather was with us again! It was sprinkling lightly with a slight wind at the start. The rain had stopped by the turn around point (I think I was just dripping sweat by then). Welcome back John Allen! There was only 1 new PR tonight, by William Henebry (yes, on his fixed-gear bike!). September 1st, 2010. Wind SSE at 4mph. Temp 85 w/some humidity. Sprinkling … [Read more...]
