Swimming in close quarters can be intimidating to many triathletes, who often struggle to get through the first few minutes so they can settle down and just swim. With a little preparation, however, you can make those first few minutes work to your advantage. … [Read more...]
Liars, Cheaters and Thieves in Your Sport
In order to make sport a fair playing field, those that cheat the rules need to be dealt with and appropriately punished. They steal more than podium positions and glory from other athletes, they steal from the integrity of sport. … [Read more...]
What the hell have I been up too?

This year I have started tracking my training on DailyMile.com. This is a great site. What I like about it is... one it is like twitter, two it is like facebook, and three, it will soon integrate with Garmin Connect. Yes, I am a freak, I want to know what I am doing, what I have done, and where I should go. And all of these free online tools help you do that. Yes, I do use this website to … [Read more...]
Crown (And I Don’t Mean Royal)

A sign that you are getting older is when your teeth begin to rot. On Thursday I got my first crown (not Royal). One of my teeth has been getting filled and refilled with fillings but at last it had to get permanently fixed. Thus a crown was finally put in place. I took the afternoon off work not knowing what to expect. The process only took about 15 minutes. Removing the temporary and … [Read more...]
The Kenyans are coming
The two mile time trial made it's third round this season (already) on Tuesday with another (as predicted) painful loop around the park. The weather was a near idyllic 60 degrees and little bit of wind. One of us even ran without a shirt (it wasn't Erin or Leah). 13 of us made it out to the park for the run and the improvements in the fitness of the group are starting to show. The times … [Read more...]
The Walk Of Shame

Hagan had swim lessons shortly after work. So we loaded up and headed to the YMCA. I had the great idea of swimming some laps while Hagan was learning how to "motor boat". The swim area was crowded so I was happy to share the "medium" lane with a fellow swimmer. After about 200 yards I hear "sir, sir' sir". The lifeguard was actually demoting me to the slow lane. What in the world? … [Read more...]
“false flat”
The workout rotation called for intervals and after talking to Bill, it was decided that the gradual uphill was the flavor of the day. After mentioning it to Lawyer, he referred to it as a measly "false flat", but after 6 of them it became quite the hill. We had probably the largest group we've ever had with us for a Tuesday workout at around 15 runners. It was great to see so many people … [Read more...]
Kenyans Upset That Women And Men Are Living And Training Together In Sports Hostel
It's fine that they don't have electricity or running water, but it's not good that women were discovered living and training with men. … [Read more...]
Inaugural Swim
My first swim of 2010 occurred on Wednesday night starting at 20:30. It wasn' the most desirable time but with other obligations I'm not going to be able to get in the pool before Colony West opens at any good times. After PSR I brought home Campbell then turned around and headed to Eisenhower pool. When I arrived I was shocked at the amount of cars in the parking lot and had visions of … [Read more...]
Walt Disney Worlds Goofy Experience

By David Drennan Let the fun begin I am not sure where or how this adventure began or where the thought really came from. The blame was partly put on Jeremy, but it is all a blur now. I do believe the idea of doing the Goofy Race and a Half in Disney World in 2010 started with a simple conversation in late 2008 at the Memphis half marathon. Just to be clear the Goofy Race and a Half … [Read more...]
