Like A Heat Wave

Busted out of work early and eagerly waited for Sandy to get home.  As soon as the car door slammed shut I was on the pavement.  It was 42 degrees outside but felt like a heat wave considering the sub-zero temperatures the previous week.  It felt good to be running outside again.  It's been a while.  I opted for trail shoes anticipating some slushy sidewalks.  I was right.  There were … [Read more...]

Headin’ for the hills

The 2 mile time trial had a great turnout considering the road conditions in the park (i.e. terrible) and the colder temps.  Everyone seemed to suffer through it just fine and it was nice to finally have a real benchmark for the 2010 season.  Nowhere to go but up! Next week we are heading to Oakridge Cemetery for the dreaded Octopus!  We are meeting at the NW corner of First and Madison at … [Read more...]

2009 In Review

illinoismarathon2

Thinking about this post, the feeling I had was of mediocrity.  My mood is quite different this time of year than in the thick of the season.  There is really nothing I am excited about right now.  However, reflecting back on the entire season there ARE achievements I am happy about and consider a success.  On the flip side, there are experiences I would like to forget. At this point in my … [Read more...]

Pere Marquette Endurance Trail Race

larry_miller

By Larry Miller The Pere Marquette Endurance Trail Race is 7.6 miles of brutality and it is one of the funnest races around. Somewhat difficult to get into due to the cap on the number of runners, I was able to run this year by using a transfer of a runner that could not make the race. The day was mid 30's, very gray and a little drizzly at times. Fortunately the rain and sleet held off … [Read more...]

Happy New Season!

Botox

Another season is upon us.  As I look back on the season that just ended, I realize it was pretty much a wash all around.  Apart from the fact that it truly got me out on the bike and somewhat back in the pool, it was nothing but frustration with injuries.  It was never really bad enough to put me on my butt in front of the TV, but then again... maybe that would have been best.  It always was … [Read more...]

My rear end review

2009 was a learning experience. I completed a total of 9 races. 3 running, 1 biathlon, and 5 triathlons. Looking back, that doesn't seem like that many races. I think I put in a lot more training miles this year and focused much more on the bike. I was really big on group training also. I started going to masters swim quit regularly on Sundays. Didn't miss too many workouts at the track on … [Read more...]
