Long Time Gone

DSC02291

I've been a temporary, moving with no internet hiatus.  Things are finally up and running.  I wish I could say the same about me.  I seriously underestimated the training for the 70.3.  Well, not so much the training, but the training, the moving, the wedding , the kids, the trips etc.  I feel like I have not been giving it my all the last few weeks, but that's life and I am doing what I … [Read more...]

Alligator Lizards In The Air

"Alligator lizards in the air..."  I spent all 3 minutes of Ventura Highway trying to figure what it means.  I was not successful.  I did manage to get in 6.5 miles running before heading to Texas Roadhouse.  It was the first time for us and I was pleasantly surprised. … [Read more...]

One Long Acceleration

Acceleration

I will start by filling everyone in on last week's workout.  Another Lunch With(out) Eric.  The last few workouts have been geared towards a sub-5:00 mile which we will get to at the end of this post.  A few runners have gotten the late season bug to make a push for a sub-5:00 mile.  The truth is... it's always a good time of year to attempt it.  The elusive standard by which most all of us … [Read more...]

Eric clears out the track

After the Dan Dungan workout, I thought a day at the track might be good for me.  Eric had cooked up a killer workout that lasted no more than 15 minutes or so.  The workout was to start with progressive quarters.   2:00 for the first and 5 seconds less for each quarter. lap 1: 2:00 lap 2: 1:55 lap 3: 1:50 lap 4 1:45 (1 mile) lap 5: 1:40 lap 6: 1:35 lap 7: 1:30 lap 8: 1:25 (2 … [Read more...]

Ironman for a day

In preparation for the Augusta 70.3, Longhorn 70.3 and the Ironman World Championship in Kona.  A group of guys, Dan Dungan, Travis Shroll, Steven Graves and I started the day 5:50 in the morning at Dan's house.   Then plan was 2.5k in the pool, 3hr bike, and 10k run. We walked to the Illini Country Club with the moon lighting our path.  Thinking the water could be a little cool, I packed … [Read more...]

2009 Niles Triathlon

MitchBuchannon

The family was in Northern Indiana visiting my in-laws for Labor Day Weekend. Me, being the opportunist that I am, scoped out a triathlon about 45 minutes from Elkhart in Niles, Michigan.  !Que Suerte!  After driving 6 hours and getting to Indiana at 23:00 (EST) I immediately went to bed as I was going to have to wake up at 05:00 the next morning. The Niles Triathlon is an Olympic Distance … [Read more...]

A Day Of Redemption

Yesterday was a wash so I was eager to get in a good training day today.   Luckily I had the day off to accomplish these high expectations. My day started at 05:30 with a trip to the pool.  I was in the bath tub temperature water around 06:00 with it still dark outside outside.  I wasn't in the mood to do sets so I opted to just do 1250 yards straight without rest.  This made the time go … [Read more...]

Broken Spoke

The night started out well.  I met Dan early and was getting in extra miles this Tuesday evening.  On our ride to BikeTek we ran into Lunch With Eric and Dave E.  They were headed out for a warm-up.  We decided to ride west a little ways with them and chat. After 10 minutes of tooling around the group began to close in on us near the intersection of Old Salem Rd. and Old Covered Bridge … [Read more...]
