Audi 5000

audi-5000

That's right, but I had to do 5000 first. Today's track workout, David came up with some crazy crap. And if he wasn't a Marine, I would have kicked his a#$! 5000 meter is a long way, and that is probably why we broke it up. 1000, 2000, 1000, 1000. Wow, I have never seen so many zeros in a workout. They planned on running the 1000s at 85 per 400, I choose to do 90. My first 1000 was tough. … [Read more...]

One month to Longhorn 70.3

Austin

Looking back over last week, I did pretty well with my training.  One goal I had was to swim 3 times.  I accomplished that with 2000 yard on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  Swimming 3 times a week really is the magic number.  By day 3 your stroke falls in to place and swimming becomes second nature.  I will try to keep this up. My running mileage on the other hand has been slacking.  I … [Read more...]

Any Given Tuesday

We are a strange bunch.  We give up our lunch hours to essentially hurt ourselves every week (some every day).  We suffer through the Winter days of slush and snow and muck to get a head start on the early season training.  We ramp it up by switching from the roads to the track for intervals.  We suffer through the heat of the Noon sun to get faster.  And then, sure enough... it happens.  … [Read more...]

Last Voyage

The family was meeting some friends on Lake Springfield for their last boat trip of the year.  So I had to get in a good run before we left at 12:00.  I reluctantly called up Dan to see when he was running.  Reluctantly because my legs were feeling tired from yesterday and I knew Dan would not run slow.  He was leaving in 15 minutes.  I made him wait 20 minutes. Leaving my house I could … [Read more...]

Augusta at Last!

IMG_0796

Sunday,  Steven and I completed in the inaugural 70.3 Ironman in Augusta Georgia.  We left early Friday morning, and drove the 12 hours straight.  We made it to the hotel just in time to attend the last mandatory pre race meeting, and then get our numbers( my swim cap color was pink! Sweet!), and check out the expo.  We got some pretty good swag, and some great stuff at the expo.  Steven … [Read more...]

Waterboarding

The in-laws left Springfield in the late morning.  Dan had already left for his morning brick.  It was cold and raining by the time they left.  So I was left to wait and hope the rain stops in time for a long ride.  I flipped back and forth on the Weather Channel probably, ohhhhhh, a hundred times.  Watching the green blob slowly trickle from left to right across the screen.  The rain would … [Read more...]

Divorce Court

The wife's Aunt and Uncle are visiting from Seattle starting Thursday so the next couple of days will be training-free.  I HAD to get in a good day today to allow for a couple of days off and family time. Work ended early and I was on the bike by 17:00.  I rode an improvised loop heading South on the TT bike. Nothing crazy but trying to maintain 20 mph at the least.  The ride ended with 22 … [Read more...]
