My first day of swim training. I went to Colony West for some lap swimming. Dan had me all worried about getting a lane so arrived about 15 minutes early so I could beat the old ladies to a lane. It was unusual as there were already some blue hairs waiting in line in front of me. I was cognizant of infringing on territory so I politely asked if my lane was OK. I didn't want to use … [Read more...]
At Best
Then plan was to go to masters on this morning. I changed my mind and thought I better swim alone once and see how I feel. I'm glad I did because I felt uncomfortable at best. I did a 500 swim, 300kick, 500 swim, 200 kick. Nothing too fast, just getting back into the swim. … [Read more...]
Turd in the Pool
Today’s Master’s swim moved over to Nelson center pool at 8 am. The word on the street was to bring your wetsuit. The water temperature was 74 degrees. I showed up early so I wouldn’t look like an idiot taking a half an hour to put my new wetsuit on. I did a little research before going, and learned the best way to put on a wetsuit. The inside out method seems to be the … [Read more...]
Comfortably Painful Biathlon
I lined up at the start, wondering what my legs had in store for me. I really had no clue as to what kind of pace I could hold for the run. I went out at a decent pace, but held back from the leaders. I knew they would be in the 5:00 minute range and didn’t want to get sucked into that. I found some familiar faces to hang with. I started out on Carl Benton’s heals over the bridge and … [Read more...]
Good Tailwind
The Capital City Biathlon was today but since I have not been running due to injury I did not participate. Therefore I went out for a solo ride around 12:00. It was quite windy out of the SSW so I decided to ride to Loami. Wanting to get more miles on the TT bike I took a chance and headed out. As it turns out it was a good decision to take the TT bike. It came in handy when battling … [Read more...]

Swim Pyramid

Today I swam at lunch. I decided to go ahead and write down on a piece of paper exactly what I was going to do. I thought that this would keep me from cheating and on schedule. The Hills
I did my first run yesterday morning. We did and easy 4.5 miles thorough the park. I felt ok. I didn't push myself too hard. So today, while everyone else was at the biathlon, including my fiance ( who got 1st place co-ed team with his sister. Great job!) I went for a run. I though I would challenge my self with some hills. I headed out Washington. The first part of the run I got … [Read more...]

Engineered Sports Foods: Convenience or Necessity?
To look at all the ads for sports drinks, energy bars, electrolyte replacers, and sports candies, you'd think these engineered products are a necessary part of a sports diet, particularly if you are doing endurance exercise such as training for a marathon or a triathlon. … [Read more...]
