Running Superfans – Ultramarathon

newcity

Brooks knows we'll go the extra mile for running, but little did they know we'd go the extra 120 miles. In this video, they followed us around one of Carls ultramarathon training sessions. The results speak for themselves, as long as you are fluent in exhaustion-induced gibberish. See all the Running Superfan videos on YouTube … [Read more...]

Jump Start

Remember when MTV actually showed music videos?  People at work were shocked when I informed them that if you are up at 0500, you can watch "Jump Start" on Vh1.  I also had to inform them that, no, I don't get up just to watch music videos, I am up to work out.  That shocks them more.  This morning I rode on the trainer and did some standing drills.  After work , I was pressed for time so … [Read more...]

Last Rider Pedaling

jasonnewcity1

My inaugural New City Time Trial experience.  Oh, how painful.  I was somehow seeded toward the back because of my past accomplishments.  Little did anyone know I had barely over 100 miles for 2009.  So I was positioned right in the middle of the big dogs. It took about 1.5 mile before being passed by the rider 30 seconds behind me and 2 miles for the rider (Dan) 60 seconds back to pass … [Read more...]

She is so hot!

The New City Time Trail had an awesome crowd on Wednesday.  31 people showed up.  I looked around and wondered... where did all these people come from. I think of Springfield as a pretty small town, and that you know most everyone that rides.  But in the last few years the cycling community has really grown.   I could probably only name 10 of the 31 riders. Anyhow the TT went off a … [Read more...]

Lunch (and Dinner) with Eric

hulk

It warmed up just enough...  That I finally showed up for a track workout.  The last time I did a speed workout was at the Pioneer Sprint and I am not so sure that 7:08 miles would classify as speed work. The first thing I did for this workout, was to show up on time!  I know how angry Eric gets when you are late.  And you wouldn't like Eric when he is angry! The workout was 1600, 800, … [Read more...]

My First Triathlon

ashleigh

By Ashleigh Handzus I signed up for the Pioneer Sprint Triathlon in Petersburg, IL on April 18th. It consisted of a 300 yd pool swim, 13 mi bike, and a 3.2 mi run. This seemed manageable to me. I was going into this triathlon figuring on something going wrong, just because I was a newbie. Most people have "day before a race" traditions, like eating a certain meal, getting a certain amount of … [Read more...]

Shaving those leg

For guys, shaving their legs for the big race has pretty well become an important part of Ironman race preparation. Its right up there with carbo loading and pre-race hydration. Actually, more to the point, its become a tradition and the mark of a real honest to God triathlete who has truly arrived. Well, at least in the minds of some. … [Read more...]
