Boy was I tired after yesterday's brick but the weather was too beautiful to pass up. I decided I would go check out the Koke Mill trail. I had heard about it but never experienced it. There had been a couple of running races on it and some of the mountain bike community talk about it so I decided to see what the fuss was all about. I think it was Brian Tober who first mentioned that it … [Read more...]
A Partner to Push

After spending the morning at the Heroes Run for Hope taking photos. I was motivated to get out and do some sport specific training. Jason and I decided on a brick, starting from my house. We did a short warm up out to Farmingdale road on our bikes. The plan was to head south for 3 miles then head all the way back to my house for a total of 10. For some odd reason I was thinking the road … [Read more...]
Blood, Sweat & Tears

Dan and I finally were able to coordinate our schedules to actually do a brick together. I arrived at his house around 14:30 as planned. Not only did we do a brick but we also tried to make it feel like a race. We laid out our running gear in transition area fashion and started the bike portion in socks with our shoes already clipped into the pedals. The part about running with my bike, hopping on … [Read more...]

Too Guilty
I have not run since Sunday and did the training race on Tuesday. I had to lace up the shoes and hit the road. I headed out to do the usual run to veterans parkway and back, just over 4.5 miles. I started out with a ton of energy. I guess that is what happens when you take a few days off. Hmmm... My first mile was at a 7:10 pace, my second just a few seconds slower. I took then next … [Read more...]
Booty Slap
Jeff W. christened today's ride with these words. "Everybody give yourselves a slap on the booty. This is the most people we've had on the last ride of the year in over a decade." He was right. There were between 12 and 15 of us riding the last training race of the year. This year in particular saw a healthy number of riders attending every Tuesday/Thursday. All the way to the end. Plenty … [Read more...]
T1=6 Hours

Today was a good day. I had the day off from work and made the most of it. After feeding the kids breakfast and getting them dressed I headed out for a run. The weather was crisp but the sun was shining brightly. The temperature was in the low 60s as I left my driveway around 10:00. No Garmin but I did take the iPod and was content to listen to my tunes on shuffle. I thought about catching up … [Read more...]
Flexibility
Runners are not the most flexible people. We notoriously have tight hamstrings, and quads. I could use to do more stretching or yoga. I have learned to be more flexible with my training. I am the queen of over training, and feel horribly guilty if I miss a work out, but who wants to stress over that. Life happens and you have to adjust. Tonight for example, the nursery at FC west … [Read more...]
