Trick or Treat

So I continued my fast to today.  I feel great.  I have learned to recognize when I am actually hungry, and specifically what foods provide, energy wise to the body.  I'm sure tonight I will have a few beers at the Office Halloween party.  I knew that I would not have time after work to work out, so I went to FC south before work this morning and did a 1.5 mile swim.  The pool was empty, … [Read more...]

Kingsford Charcoal

I spent most of my 20s racing bikes and staying in good shape.  Then I took some time off.  I went from 150lbs to close to 180lbs.  I got fat!  It could have been all that fried food, chicken wings, beer, steaks.  You get the picture. Being out of shape is just not fun.  Having an extra 30lbs to carry around with you is demoralizing.  Just imagine carring 3x10lbs bags of Kingsford … [Read more...]

Day 3

So day 3 of the raw foods fast.  I felt much better today. I woke early, after a good nights rest, and did 45 min of yoga.  My coffee craving was at bay this morning.   I have really learned what it feels like to be hungry, and what foods can fulfill that.  I'm glad I did this fast, and I will continue it until tomorrow at dinner at least.  I also weighed myself today, and I was 7 pounds … [Read more...]

Day 2

Day 2 on the raw foods fast.  I don't an overwhelming sense of a renewal or anything, I do have a head ache this morning.  I think I'm having coffee withdrawal.  By lunchtime I was feeling pretty sluggish.  I think I stayed up too late, and did not recover from my long run yesterday.  I was not feeling much like swimming after work, but i ate some almonds, and drove to fc.  I pulled one … [Read more...]

Raw food

I started my three day raw foods fast today.   I am fasting to help clean, and detoxify the body.  Crazy, I know but I am doing it for personal reasons, and I'm  not saying everyone should.  I will eat only raw and unprocessed foods.  So basically fruits, veggies, and nuts, and only water to drink. Before taking the kids to school, I did 25min of yoga.  I had a dentist appt, and then a … [Read more...]

Doldrums

I think I caught a case of the doldrums.  I just haven't been in the mood to write. Sorry.  I have been working out though , nothing too exciting.  Last Thursday I did a long run of 13.2 miles.  Saturday I did a pool swim, 10x200's on the 3:45.  Today I slept in and went to fc around 0930.  I did a good treadmill work out.  1.5mile warm up, then 8x .5mile repeats. 1, and 2 were at … [Read more...]

Hilly Wisconsin NFEC

Jason and I headed up to Wisconsin Friday afternoon. The North Face Endurance Challenge was Saturday morning. We had the choice of picking up our packets the day before or after the race. We decided to go ahead and get our packet which was at Laacke & Joys in Bloomfield. It turns out this was a good hour and half away from Madison, where we were staying. It also turned out that Kettle Moraine … [Read more...]

The North Face Challenge

Thanks to the Tobers I got a good nights rest Friday night for Saturday's North Face Challenge. The accomodations were a little far from the actual race (which should have been advertised as being held in Milwaukee) so Dan and I left Motel Tober around 07:00. We arrived at the race with plenty of time to spare; around 08:30. This left time to answer nature a number of times, sip some coffee, … [Read more...]
