Frostbite

toes

Jason reminded me that we have never really done the Tuesday/Thursday training rides this late in the year. I think it was just last year when the Day Lights Savings Time Change to a new date. So what this gave us was almost a month more of training rides. Great for cycling, bad for the toes. The temperature was 65 degrees when Jason and I headed out early. We did a variation of Frostbite … [Read more...]

As Close As It Gets

I finally got my new issue of Triathlete magazine in the mail yesterday.  The cover was torn off, thanks post office.  At least I got it.  I read some during my break today.  It was interesting to read about the amateurs that will be racing in Kona.  I can't wait till Oct. 11th.  I followed Dan's theme from Sunday, and had time to catch up on my podcasts while I road my trainer ofter work … [Read more...]

Post Ride Correspondence

Today's ride was the fastest and hardest I have been on all year. I did exaclty what Dan said not to do. I got dropped on the way home. Although I wasn't as cold as he was. I guess my rabbit pelt is thicker than his. Here is a post ride exchange of text messages between Dan and myself: Jason: How many miles for today? Dan: 37. Jason: Damn, pretty good. I shouldn't have pulled through … [Read more...]

110% Better

I was cursing the rain when I woke up this morning.  I had a long run planned for the morning.  I dropped the kids off at school, and was going to brave the rain any way, until I saw lightening.   I thought better, and drove to fitclub south to swim instead.  Unfortunately there was a class starting, and they were not leaving a lap lane open.  I guess I should have checked the schedule, but … [Read more...]

I Heart Podcast

podcast

If you didn't already know, I love podcasting.  Listening, watching, creating.  On todays long run, I made sure my iPhone was up to date with my subscription of podcast.  Looking at going around 10 miles, I knew exactly how many podcast I would need. I started out with the Competitor Radio Show.  Bob Babbitt and Paul Huddle are always great to listen to.  The usually are interviewing some … [Read more...]

A Brick To Cap The Weekend

My training partner bailed out on me probably around 22:00 last night. Although nothing was official until this afternoon. Feeling good on Saturday night means feeling bad on Sunday morning. So I had to do my brick without company. It started around 14:45 once the kids were napping. I headed out on the bike toward Salisbury. At the point where you can turn right to head into Salisbury from the … [Read more...]

Weekend Update

Nothing to exciting training wise, this weekend.  Friday morning I went to the pool around 0530.  I had had a long swim, but it was cut short due to a class, and the fact the other lanes were full.  A little disgruntled I left and went to work.  I got a nice 5 mile run in after work though. Saturday morning I helped my friend Court set up for a garage sale.( Not to self:  Never drink … [Read more...]

Schlafly Octoberfest, Fighting Illini, Cyclones

My training this past week has been less than stellar. So I wanted to make today's run worth it and try to make up for some lost fitness. After all, I still have some important events left in the year. I didn't get out until around 17:00 but the temperature and weather were perfect (minus the bugs). Right away I was feeling good. "Slave to the Grind" was jamming on my iPod and each stride … [Read more...]

Returning a Medal

wildhares_billdavis

By Bill Davis A few days ago, I mailed my 2008 St. Jude Marathon registration application. I’m really looking forward to completing the St. Jude Memphis Marathon; it will be my second lifetime marathon. Also, I have to return a medal to my friend. I’ll explain why later. Completing the St. Jude Marathon is a goal that I set for myself three years ago. To give you a little background, … [Read more...]

It’s Traditional

bike_pin_up_girl

No Jason tonight. I headed out and got a good 10 miles in before heading to Bike Tek, to meet up with the team mackers. The crowd was barely 10 strong, but that was more than enough to hall ass. An hour of daylight was all we had. To the bridge and back. Once again we went from 0 to 30 in a half second. Robo finally shaved his legs and is now cutting through the wind like a golf ball. He … [Read more...]
