Somewhere over the rainbow

A dark gloomy sky had me questioning if my run would happen tonight.  I went to fitclub south after work to do 1730 powerzone.  I left my Ipod in the car, on the charger in case it rained.  I  was hoping it would pass by the time class finished.  After powerzone I went out side to check the weather.  Yep, pouring rain.  I ran to the car grabbed the " all important for a treadmill … [Read more...]

Muddy Monday

I woke early, well as early as I could, so I could get a long bike ride in before it got too hot.  I drove over  to the Wabash trail, by BJ , and parked.  I rode from there behind Panther west, across veterans, down Toronto road.  I went around the lake, via WLSD, to ELSD, through Chatham.  In Chatham I got on the trail.  It provided some nice shade.  When I got to the intersection, where … [Read more...]

Whining or Pro-Testing

The results were posted from the Canton Sprint Triathlon.  The winner... Pro Triathlete Chris Riekert, from Chicago.  I checked out his website www.chrisriekert.com, which says he is a "pro triathlete" so he must be a pro triathlete. My question is when and how do races start mixing the pros with the age groupers? In cycling you have a pro division.  Races may have combined categories like … [Read more...]

Green Lake II

Another beautiful day. Seattle is wonderful in July and August but apparently rains the other 10 months. Lucky Me! I do the 5 mile, Green Lake loop again today. It feels good to run but my calves are bothering me more and more. I need to get back to the land of corn. … [Read more...]

It takes balance

I was so happy with my time @ the Canton tri that I celebrated with a few beers last night.  Consequently I slept in this morning.  I got some much need rest. Now I probably should have made today a rest day, but I couldn't.  I took full advantage of my alone time.  I went to fit club and did a hour of weights in powerzone class.  If you have never been to one of Christine's class, you … [Read more...]

Canton Sprint

Ugh 0400 is way to early to be awake.  I Started the morning with my usual pre-race routine.  Got up, made coffee(most important), ate my peanut butter on toast, and got my things together.  I was at my brothers house  by 0500. The gps told us we would get there in 2hrs, but it only took us about 1hr 20min.  We got a great parking spot, got our packets, and set up in the transition area.  … [Read more...]

The Middle of Somewhere

Somewhere in the middle of nowhere is the small town of Canton Illinois.  Host to the 17th Annual Lakeland Bi-Tri Classic.  This is low key sprint triathlon and biathlon.  There were no fancy finish lines or swag.  But I came back for the second year in a row. The morning started at 4:30a.m. when the alarm when off.  S.S.S. but without the shaving part.  I packed the Jeep the night … [Read more...]

Green Lake

Seattle is just plain AWESOME! I have never seen so many outdoor/athletic people in my life. There are commuters, walkers, and runners everywhere. It reminded me of Holland where you are constantly looking out while driving for people on bikes. People ride everywhere. Not only do you see traditional outdoor activities but you also see people rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, wind surfing, etc. … [Read more...]

Freaky Friday

I went to the park around 1530 just to do a quick 3 miles.  It was so hot, but I wanted to get a few miles in before the race tomorrow.  I ran Wednesday night, and I like to make sure my legs felt ok. I started my run through the park.  Picture me running along around by the smaller lake.  I  hear a russeling in the trees above me.  I look up expecting a tree banch to be falling from some … [Read more...]
