Monster Brick

sandbag

Today I dusted off the tt bike and headed out for a sprint sized brick.  The Midwest Monster Adventure is just two weeks away and a bike-run workout is key.  Walking around the neighborhood with a 40# bag of sand would probably help too, but I will have to pass on that. Just getting the legs turning and not over doing it was all I was looking for.  I went 7 mile out and headed back in.  I … [Read more...]

Blister In The Sun

Contrary to what the Violent Femmes believe I came up with a better use of my "alone time". Who doesn't love doing a track workout alone, in the blistering sun? I warmed up for about 2 miles then began the self-inflicted torture. 1600, 1200, 800, and 400. It doesn't sound like a lot but it hurt. I'm sure I was north of 07:00/mile for the final 400. I was running slower as the laps increased. … [Read more...]

Holiday Weekend

long_hammer_ipa

A three day weekend for most in the observation of Labor Day.  What is Labor day?  Does it really matter as long as I get a day off of work?  So what is Labor Day? Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have … [Read more...]

Ironman Louisville

No training today just a family reunion.  I woke this morning at 04:00 to leave the house with my Mom and Daughter at 05:00.  We picked up my Nephew in Monticello and headed to Louisville, Kentucky for a family reunion. As we crossed the bridge from Indiana to Kentucky I noticed what looked like a huge transition area on the shores of the Ohio River.  It turns out that the next day was Ironman … [Read more...]

Shut up and let me go

Ah Friday, and a 3 day week end for most.  It was the perfect morning to  try out my zoot's again, so I went for a run before I had to leave for KC.  I definitely wore socks this time.  I did my usually stretching, and rolled out my I T band before the run.  I started toward Washington park.  I was rockin at around a 7min pace.  I know it's some what cliche, but I love the Ting Ting's song … [Read more...]

Riders on the Storm

Tonight was a short ride. With low turnout and low motivation the ride ended just short of 20 miles. The clouds rolled in and the weather to the north did not look favorable. I think I played it smart by tuning around early with Dungan an Lister. I should have plenty of time to train this holiday weekend. Jason and I are planning on doing a long trail run on Sunday or Monday at Jim Edgar … [Read more...]

Stifling

Man, was it humid today.  About 10 of us showed up for the ride tonight.  Most people were either going to take it easy or didn't show at all because of the 4-race weeekend in St. Louis, The Gateway Cup. Halfway down Farmingdale Rd. the skies looked threatening so about 1/2 the group turned around.  The other 5 of us HardyBreeds kept going.  A couple of miles down the road Dan E. flatted.  … [Read more...]

Role Models

I started my Wednesday work out with an hour of wight @ powerzone class.  We did walking lunges, and a lot of squats.  I wasn't sure I this was a good thing, considering I had track later.  I got to track practice late again, since football is starts at 1800.  I started with a 400 warm up.  I planned on doing 6x800 @ 5k pace. My first 4 went really well.  I was averaging a 6:15 … [Read more...]

Gratitude

Yes, one of my favorite songs of all time by the Beastie Boys seems appropriate for today's ride. What am I grateful for? I am grateful for: My life. My health. My family. R&M Cyclery and Trek for their crash replacement policy. Wheelfast Bicyle Company. The Running Center. Memorial Medical Center and a Great ER. Dr. Leo Ludwig and the Orthopedic Center of Illinois for … [Read more...]
