It is either windy, raining, cold, or too hot, so for this tuesday night training race I'll take hot and windy. 20-30mph gust from the south and close to 90 degrees. The training race started off with a pretty good size group 20+. Starting off down Old Salem Lane, I could see the gutter getting full. I knew I had no choice but to stay in the rotation up front or get dropped. Don't … [Read more...]
Squeeze Play
Another windy day greeted us today. A strong South wind meant a tough ride was in store. As anticipated the group sped along Old Salem Rd. producing a large echelon across the road. But as you know not everyone can fit in the front echelon. By the time we hit Farmingdale Rd. riders were already struggling in the back. About halfway down Farmingdale Rd. I looked down at my Garmin and it … [Read more...]
New Training Partner
Yes I do feel guilty when I am out training by myself, and my wife is alone with the kids. With that said, I decided to go for a run in the 88 degree heat with my daughter Chloe at my side. She just learned to rider here bike earlier this year without training wheels so she is able to keep a pretty good pace. We headed out, and she kept asking my why I was so wet? Did I mention the 100% … [Read more...]
Kidless
Monday was a day of rest. Not even a weight was lifted. My Dad was headed back to Gulf shores the next day, so I ate dinner with My step mom and him. Oh yeah they took my children with them! Now everyone asks, "Won't you miss them?" Well yes I will but, I know they will have a blast swimming and playing all day with Grandpa. I also enjoy the break. So Tuesday before work I did a tempo … [Read more...]
God Likes to Train
Taking it easy after Saturday's race, I was able to get out for a 5 mile run on Sunday a easy 8:30ish pace. Monday was a off day although I lifted weights and did core exercises. Tuesday started with a day of weather. Storms pummeled the midwest. But by mid-afternoon the sky was blue and clear. The training race was going to be hot and humid. A good crowd turned out for sprint night. … [Read more...]
Shrubbery
I'm not sure if that is how it is spelled on Monty Python but that's what I thought about when I went running this afternoon. There were tree limbs down, power lines down, and debris and shrubbery everywhere. It looked like a war-zone. I left the house a little past 14:00. It was hot and sticky. My intentions were to run 1 mile repeats but that didn't last too long. I felt terrible. … [Read more...]
Forgivin and forgotten
Well I would like to say how well I did at the biathlon, but I made a rookie mistake. I usually don't have to take my bike apart to put it on my car, but I had my dad's jeep. I took the front wheele off, and left the skewer sitting on the garage floor. I now know, thanks to Dan, that it's a quick release. Duh. I didn't realize I left it until around 0700. I would never have made it home and … [Read more...]

The Hot & Sunny Capital City Biathlon

Don’t Take My Advice
Jeff's voice keeps pounding in my head in one of NIL8 songs where he keeps repeating "don't take my advice". My drinking escapade prevented me from training from Thursday to Sunday. So today I decided to do another brick workout. Unfortunately this is 2 Sundays in a row where I am trying to "catch up" by doing a brick. The morning was raining so I didn's start my bike ride until around … [Read more...]
