Afternoon delight

I was lazy and slept in this morning.  I ended up going for a run around 1400 in the park.  The sun was hot and I worked up a good sweat!  I did a tempo run of 5miles.  After the run I went to fit club and did powerzone.  We focused on lower body a lot.  Did feel so strong after the run.  We also did push ups and some triceps dips. My favorite.  I finished my evening work out by mowing the … [Read more...]

The Evolution of Running

wildhares_matth

By Matthew Hitchcock The first organized run I ever participated in was a marathon when I was 23.  I had absolutely no running experience prior to the 2005 Chicago Marathon; no previous cross country experience during my high school days, no weekend 5K’s,  nothing. So imagine the feeling when the race started and along with the 40,000 other runners, I began running through the streets of one … [Read more...]

MD Appointment

Well I didn't ask about working out soooooooooo..........I will continue with my light workouts with MD blessing (I guess). I am now able to remove the sling and do some passive and active/assisted range of motion.  My pain is actually pretty good.  I am off the Hydrocodone and am only on Advil and Fat Tire. … [Read more...]

Doctor’s Orders?

It's funny referring to today's workout as a workout.  Three weeks ago I would have called today a day off or a cool down.  I'll take what I can get at this point and am just happy to be working up a sweat again. I rode the recumbent exercise bike again for 30 minutes and the stepper for 10 minutes.  I'm not sure if the MD wants me doing it but I will find out tomorrow. … [Read more...]

Drizzle-Run-Swim-Run

Run, Swim, Run... I don't think this is an event but it made for a great workout today.  Saturday was a day of rest, so today I train.  I was planning on heading out for the swim club for adult swim at 10.  I decided to lace up my running shoes and make a brick of it.  I couldn't remember exactly how far it was so I left a few minutes after 9.  The morning had been cloudy, and the … [Read more...]

Long distance

Long distance was never my specialty.  I was always a sprinter.  Since I a have gotten older I enjoy going slower, running, or swimming longer.  Distance in other things, isn't always as fun.  Friday after work I swam 1.5 miles.  Have you ever thought about how you are swimming while you are doing it?   Not easy.  I tried to think about how and when I kick, how I breathe, and how my arms … [Read more...]

Graduation Day

I graduated from couch potato to weekend warrior today.  My shoulder is slowly feeling better so I went to Koke Mill Medical Center to work out. I rode the recumbent exercise bike for 30 minutes at around 80 rpm, just trying to spin.  I did a moderate effort for about 10 minutes of those 30.  Then switched to the stepper.  This was considerably more effort.  I did about 10 minutes before … [Read more...]

Sittin’ at a Bar

Today was a short day at work and an afternoon alone.  (No kids)  I headed out for a nice little run and was headed back to the Hardy Breed Studios to shoot episode 008.  Well I completed a 4.5 mile run and took a quick shower.  I then remembered I that I didn't charge the video camera, I didn't have the mics.  We were also planning on a special episode outside so we wouldn't need the … [Read more...]

Timid Training Race

I don't know, maybe it is just me, but things have seemed a little timid at the training race since "the wreck."  We had a dozen or so, come out tonight.  Brock and another showed up as usual with their TT bikes, and were quickly run off.  I guess we now have new No-TT-Bike rule in effect. (See the Forum) I don't know if it was that, but there was somber mood the rest of the ride.  I was … [Read more...]

No-Time Trial

The Wednesday New City Time Trial started as usual.  Everyone paid their buck, wrote a number on themselves and were staged.  There was a huge turnout tonight, over 20 people.  The large crowd really makes things more interesting. I was positioned about 5 riders from the back, so I had a lot of carrots in front of me and some really fast rabbits behind me. My goal tonight was to keep my … [Read more...]
