I was pretty sore today but wanted to get some quality training in before I taper. I'm still paranoid about my fitness and keep trying to gain that extra something. With my ankle bothering me, poor motivation, dreadful weather (to quote Dan), and slow runs I just don't feel like I did 3 weeks ago. Maybe the training was too lengthy? Oh well... So I rode the trainer for 30 minutes at a … [Read more...]
One Week to Go
Jason and I met for a 15 mile run. We did our usual route to the park. The run seemed long and kind of dreadful. The weather was terrible, cold and raining when we started and cool and muggy when we finished. So I started out wet and finished up even wetter. It was one of those days that really defines you as a runner. After thinking about the marathon it I am not sure if I … [Read more...]
Better?
Zero motivation and feeling a little hung over from yesterday's Barstool Open I headed out to meet Dan at the usual spot. We met at 12:45 in drizzling rain but 47 degree temperatures. The drizzling stopped after about an hour but the humidity remained. I'm not complaining, however, because I am so sick of freezing temperatures that anything above 50 degrees is appreciated. It felt like a … [Read more...]
Feeling Guilty?
A beautiful day, with a high around 50, and I go for the control environment of the treadmill. With the wife out of town, I had someone watch the kids for a few hours so I could get a workout in. Jason was not available to train today seeing he is doing some heavy binge drinking. I hope I install some guilt with the post. My workout started with 30 minutes on the trainer. I had purchased a … [Read more...]
Good Times/Bad Times
A meeting at work was canceled this morning so I took the opportunity to go for an early morning run. The weather was not favorable but my training has slacked lately and I am feeling pressure from the upcoming marathon. It was 34 degrees and cloudy with a 15 mph NNE wind when I started at 07:00. It didn't take long before my lips were numb and I was COLD. I attempted to run workout #1 but … [Read more...]
Love Me Two Times
I went and bought a patellar tendon strap at the Springfield Running Center yesturday. I was praying this would solve my knee problem. I tried it out on the treadmill for a 3 mile lunch workout. It felt pretty good. I increased and decrease the elevation to test it out on a hill. Towards the end of the workout my knee felt a little funny, but good. After work I tried to over do it, … [Read more...]
Slightly More Frills
Still with low motivation but I drug myself into the basement. Began with 3 sets of 7 dips, 3 sets of 21 reverse crunches on the Tower of Power, 3 sets of 11 standing military presses with 25# weights, 3 sets of 11 shoulder shrugs with 25# dumbbells, and 3 sets of 21 crunches on the ball. Finished the night with 30 minutes on the trainer. Now my adductors feel tight AND my ankle still hurts. … [Read more...]
On the Road Again
I am not sure if Willie Nelson is a runner, but I will take a guess and say "no." I made it out for a 4.5 mile run today, trying to nurse my knee back into the swing of things. Once again there was no pain for the first mile and a half. Then came a hill, and another. The pain below my knee cap came back. I did a run walk on the way home. The pain wasn't bad, but I did not want to make … [Read more...]
Time Trialapalooza
Ya know I think I went to this thing back in the 90's. I seem to remember the Red Hot Chili Pepper, Pearl Jam, and Coach Troy? Well I am not sure where Coach Troy came up with this name for his Spinnerval 22.0 workout. He probably pays someone big buck for names like that. Anyhow... This is a good hour and twenty minute workout on the trainer. You can break this work out down into … [Read more...]
